A man was arrested early Thursday after allegedly assaulting a police officer and then leading authorities during a chase through the Southeast.
An officer with the Elmendorf Police Department contacted the suspect who had multiple warrants for his arrest Thursday morning. According to a Bexar police lieutenant, the suspect struck a police officer and fled in a pickup truck during the confrontation.
Deputies from the City of Bexar assisted in tracking down the defendants. They tried to slash his tires several times, and Elmendorf only managed to destroy the tires of a police cruiser and the deputy's squad car, the lieutenant said.

Authorities eventually filled up the suspect's tires near Interstate 37 and South Cross Boulevard. The suspect exited Southeast Military Drive and headed toward Goliad Road.
He finally pulled into a parking lot on Gilead Street around 2:30 a.m. Authorities later arrested him, according to the lieutenant.
In addition to the Elmendorf Police Department and the Bexar County Sheriff's Office, the Texas Department of Public Safety assisted in the operation.

Sunday's Shooting Brings Back Memories Of All Of Sapd's Fallen Heroes
SAN ANTONIO - A local police officer accused of having sex with a 13-year-old girl is in trouble with the law.
Elmendorf Police Chief Marco Pena spoke to local media Thursday afternoon after the arrest of one of his former reserve officers.
"I'm sad and scared," Pena said. "Honestly, as the chief of police for the Elmendorf Police Department, I'm really horrified."
"We brought in Mr. Gonzalez, we talked to him in the conference room and I advised him what the charge was," Peña said. "He resigned shortly thereafter. He was no longer with the Elmendorf Police Department at the time of his arrest."

According to the affidavit, the mother of the deceased 13-year-old girl was checking photos on her cellphone when she saw her daughter in a provocative pose.
When she confronted her daughter, the teenager told her that Gonzalez had asked for photos and that the two had been having sex since September.
When Gonzalez was hired in October, they did a thorough background check and found no disciplinary issues while he was on the force, Peña said.
"Unfortunately, sometimes, we don't know what these people... are going through their mind or heart at the time," the chief said. "When we do this whole background, we don't know what's going to happen to people."

Gonzalez was an Alamo Community College officer for 14 years before being hired by Elmendorf police. He dropped out of college in 2014.
He also worked as a juvenile recruitment officer in Bexar County from December 2015 to December 12, 2015.
When asked about his employment, the county said he resigned due to disciplinary issues related to time and attendance.
