I will admit that I had my opinions about both pistols when Glock announced them. At first glance, neither looked like a pistol that would fit in my everyday carry. But I love shiny new things, so I was looking forward to getting one to review.

I thought that the first time I would meet them would be at Shot Show 2019. But luckily, I was able to get them this week to review. While I wasn't excited to add to my workload before heading to Las Vegas this Sunday, I couldn't pass up the offer to test drive the Glock 43X and Glock 48.

I was originally going to do separate reviews for each of these pistols, but they are so similar that I decided to combine them both into one review. The difference is that the Glock 43X is the same length as the Glock 43 and the Glock 48 is the same length as the Glock 19.
First, I would like to say that I am not a Glock fan. But I'm also far from a Glock Hater. I currently carry a Glock 19 MOS and a Glock 43 depending on what I'm wearing that day. But I recently got back into carrying a Glock in early 2018. Before that, I carried a Springfield Armory XD Mod.2. I will leave the reason for the change to another article. The XD has been my primary EDC since it was released in 2014. Before switching to the XD, I carried a Glock 26, a Glock 23, and a Taurus PT-140 which was my first handgun until it broke on a training course over the weekend. weapon. .
I only say this to show that I am not married to one manufacturer or gun. I have many Berettas and enjoy shooting them to this day. I grew up shooting Berettas. The only guns I remember my dad having were a Beretta and a cow gun, the model of which I can't remember. I do not carry any of them or use them as my home defense pistols. They are nostalgic and happy to throw on the field for me.
With that out of the way, let's get to the actual review. Here are the specs for the Glock 43X and Glock 48. I'm also adding a few other popular pistols for comparison.
Rounds In: First Impressions Of The Glock 48

Building on the success of the Glock 42 .380 and Glock 43 9mm, the Glock 43X and Glock 48 are single-stack 9mm pistols. Glock classifies them as their Silver Slimline series. Both have a grip length that is similar to the compact Glock 19. When I first saw the words "Glock 43X" I thought this might be a Glock 43 with a long barrel and a slide that would be interesting. But no, they went the Glock 19X route by making the grip longer and keeping the same barrel and slide for the 43X. For the Glock 48, it's basically a slimmer, single-stack Glock 19.
The silver nPVD coated slide and front saws are two other standout features. Whether or not they will release the pistol in a standard black finish remains to be seen. The sights on both guns I received are standard factory polymer sights, but metal and night sights will also be available.
The grip design is similar to the Glock 43 which has a square (or pyramid) that does not stick out like the grips on the Gen 4 and Gen 5 models. And while the Glock43X and Glock 48 are not Gen 5, the magazines have an orange follower like the models of Gen 5. One thing I noticed is that the 43X fits perfectly in the Glock 43 holsters I have.

Whether or not I thought any of these pistols would fit in my concealed carry, I was still looking forward to getting to the range and shooting them. I got to the outdoor gun range near the house when they opened the morning after they received them. I planned to shoot at least 250 rounds through each of them to see how they fired, check for misfires, and see if firing any of them would change my mind. Both pistols already had about 250 rounds through them.
It was a chilly morning in Louisiana at about 40 degrees. My fingers were already sore from a tough jiu-jitsu class the day before, so loading 500 rounds into a 10-round magazine was no fun, to say the least.
But I enjoyed shooting both pistols. I will start by saying that I had no problems with the Glock 43X and the Glock 48. Both guns worked perfectly and were more accurate than I was. It quickly reminded me why I need to hit the gun range to train more often, one of my 2019 resolutions.
Did I enjoy shooting with the G43X and G48 over the G43? yes But for the same reasons I enjoy shooting my G19 more than my G43, it allows you to get the perfect grip. The Glock 48 also didn't feel as fast as the G43X with the smaller barrel. Surprisingly, I seemed to shoot the G43X better than the 48. While I enjoyed shooting the 43X and 48, I picked up my G19 and Trijicon RMR Type 2 and quickly realized how much more I enjoyed shooting my EDC of choice. It just feels right to me.

So it comes down to the Glock 43 with the larger grip (Glock 43X) and the single-stack Glock 19 (Glock 48). As I said above, I didn't think any of these would replace what I wear now. The Glock 48 doesn't have an accessory rail and seems too narrow to put a red mark on it, so I wouldn't trade my Glock 19 for a Glock 48 just to gain 4mm less width. I can conceal my Glock 19 most of the time. And when I can't, I carry my Glock 43. And I carry the 43 because the grip is what made the impression with my 19 in other cabinet situations. So the 43X wouldn't appeal to me either.
Everyone had different wants and needs, so what works for me may not work for the next person. My wife recently started filming last year and to my surprise she really likes it. Of all my pistols, he settled on the Springfield Armory XD as the one that looked good to him. So I did a quick test with it. I told him to hold my G19 to see how it felt. So I let him hold the G48, and as I thought, he really liked the way it felt. Single-stack pistols are best suited for their small hands.
He doesn't currently carry concealed, but he likes to shoot at the range, so I think the Glock 48 would be a great gun for him. You can get a full grip without the use of a rosette extension which in turn allows you to hold more rounds. And the G48 gives you a longer barrel that won't be as fast as a shorter barrel. So as his birthday approaches, I feel Glock will get my money back.
